Options for Independence hosted it’s first annual shrimp boil fundraiser on September 5th, 2014. All proceeds raised during the fundraiser benefitted Options For Independence’s goal to reopen the Hooper Dorm. The Hooper Dorm is a residential home for girls on the MacDonnell Children’s Home Campus. Currently, the MacDonnell Children’s Home is able to provide a home for 16 male residents ages 11-17 years old. The community identified a need to be able to provide a home environment for girls ages 11-17 in our own community. As a result, Options For Independence developed a partnership with MacDonnell Children’s Home to turn this need into a reality. The fundraiser held on September 5th was a huge success in making the Hooper Dorm into not only a residential facility for girls to live, but a loving and safe home for them to thrive and flourish. Options for Independence thanks all of the volunteers and community members for your support and donations. A special thanks goes to Raising Cane’s for donating all of the supplies as well as the East Park Recreation Center for donating the space.
